Well Wāhine Week was an idea born from the aspirations of inspiring Tairāwhiti women, brought together by Whiti Ora. The ongoing aim of this group is to find ways to support our region’s wāhine, kōhine and gender diverse to meet their many wellness aspirations, whether they be to participate, lead, or to find inspiration in the visibility of wāhine being active.

Well Wāhine Week connected hundreds of wāhine, kōhine and gender diverse to free, women-only activities. Wāhine and kōhine told us they found joy in the women’s-only vibe, safety in the embrace of all-comers, freedom in the lack of commitment, and inspiration to re-prioritise their own wellness moving forward.

The feedback that came through the loudest was the desire to carry on the kaupapa of the week throughout the year. Introducing Well Wāhine. It’s a movement where YOU can come together with other women and girls to  improve your wellness while finding joy. Try or learn something new — you don’t even have to be good at it – just show up!

Check out the calendar below for activities that interest you. Throughout the year, we will feature free Well Wāhine events. Other events on the calendar are regular, on-going activities in the spirit of Well Wāhine, (all-comers welcome, no commitment, and women-only) but with participant fees. Find something for you!
