Tū Manawa Active Aotearoa Funds $16,000 to Coasty Kidds

Coasty Kidds were funded $16,000 towards their Tamariki of the Tides project through the  Manawa Active Aotearoa fund.

The  Manawa fund is managed by Sport Gisborne Tairāwhiti on behalf of Sport New Zealand and provides funding for projects delivering play, active recreation and sport experiences for tamariki and rangatahi.

Tamariki of the Tides aims to deliver pool and sea-based diving instruction to connect young people with the sea and to grow their food sovereignty. The project will connect to participants by working alongside local kura and groups that work with disengaged young people. The funding will contribute to delivery-related costs.

On hearing the approval of their application, Coasty Kidds Manager Reremoana Sheridan said they were stoked.”

Dion and I are over the moon that we got some funding to deliver Tamariki of the Tides. This will absolutely make a difference in our aim to reconnect our rangatahi.”

Sport Gisborne Tairāwhiti Active Communities Advisor Sarah Pocock said, It’s great to be able to support quality experiences like this for young people in our community. The fund supports projects that break down barriers for young people. I am really looking forward to seeing this project carried out.

Tamariki of the Tides was one of seven projects funded in thfirst round of  Manawa funding, worth a total of $104,220.79. The next round closes February 28, 2021. A complete list of all applicants and successful projectsand more info about applying to the fund, can be found here.
